Student answer (Band 5.0)
The bar chart illustrates the results of a survey conducted in five major cities of Australia about people's drinking habits and buying coffee and tea.
The common thing in all the cities is majority of the people went for coffee or tea in a cafe in last 4 weeks.Whereas fresh coffee is not bought by many peoples in these five cities. The ratio of fresh coffee bought by residents is very less as compared to people went to cafe for tea or coffee.
Residents of these five cities are more interested to go for a tea and coffe in a cafe. In Adelaide the bar chart is almost same for instant coffee and people who are interested to go for tea or coffee in cafe.
The interest in buying instant coffee is low in every city of the survey, where in sydney almost 43 percent people bought instant coffee in last 4 weeks, which is the maximum percentage among all the cities.
Instant coffee is also interested by the peoples of these five cities but not more than the people went to a cafe.Instant coffee followed the interest like residents who went to a cafe. Only in Adelaide, the garph of instant coffee is slighlty higher than people went to a resturant.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad pattern that café visits were popular and attempt to compare fresh and instant coffee purchases. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: café attendance was highest in every city except Adelaide, where instant coffee was slightly higher, but the claim that fresh coffee was “not bought by many” is vague and does not identify the city differences. There is also a major data error: Sydney’s instant-coffee figure was about 46%, not 43%, and it was not the highest; Hobart had the highest figure, at roughly 55%. The response gives few reliable comparisons across all three categories and repeats general statements rather than selecting key figures. To improve, report the main highs and lows accurately and support the overview with representative data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction and then discusses broad patterns and individual categories. However, the progression is difficult to follow because ideas are repeated and sometimes conflict. For example, you first say instant-coffee interest is “low in every city,” then state it is of interest but below café visits, before noting Adelaide as an exception. The paragraphing does not clearly separate an overview from detailed comparisons, and connectors such as “Whereas” and “Only in Adelaide” do not always make the relationships between points clear. Group the information into a concise overview followed by comparisons of the three survey activities, and use linking phrases only where they accurately signal contrast or exception.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the topic, with relevant terms such as “residents,” “percentage,” “instant coffee,” and “cafe.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably unnatural, sometimes making the meaning unclear. For instance, “the interest in buying instant coffee is low” does not accurately describe the figures, while “Instant coffee is also interested by the peoples” uses an unsuitable expression. “Resturant” is also misspelled, and “garph” and “slighlty” contain spelling errors. Use precise chart language such as “the proportion who bought instant coffee” and “the figure for café visits,” and check spelling and natural word combinations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and comparisons, but the range of structures is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to read. Examples include “in last 4 weeks,” which needs an article, and “the ratio of fresh coffee bought by residents is very less,” where the sentence structure and comparison are faulty. The sentence beginning “Whereas fresh coffee…” is a fragment, and punctuation is missing after “weeks” in the second sentence. There are also problems with plural and agreement patterns, as in “many peoples.” Aim for clear, complete sentences with consistent past-tense reporting, accurate articles, and controlled comparison structures—for example, “The proportion buying fresh coffee was lower than the proportion visiting a café.”
