Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the three survey categories and give a broad overview that café visits were generally the most popular, while fresh coffee purchases were lower. However, the overview is not fully accurate: fresh coffee was not the lowest category in every city, since instant coffee was lower in Sydney. Several comparisons are also unclear or incorrect. For example, Brisbane’s instant-coffee figure was about 53%, not 45%, and Adelaide’s was about 50%, not 55%; the response appears to reverse or misreport these values. The account also omits useful comparisons, such as Hobart having the highest instant-coffee figure and Melbourne the highest café attendance. Select the main highs and lows, then report each city’s figures precisely and consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing the categories. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In contrast” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression within the body is difficult to follow because the figures shift between categories and cities without a consistent order. The repeated “On one hand” and “Moreover” do not clearly signal the relationships between the comparisons, and some clauses are joined in confusing ways, such as “Adelaide, and Brisbane, decreased to 55% and 49%.” Group the information by category or by clear high/low comparisons, and use linking phrases only where they accurately express the relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “survey,” “percentage,” “proportion,” and “in contrast,” and you attempt to describe change with words such as “rose” and “increased.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for a static bar chart. “Remained stable was rose” combines conflicting meanings, while “grow” and “decreased” imply change over time that the chart does not show. Spelling errors such as “darinking,” “proporation,” “Brishbane,” and “Melboure” also make the report less clear. Use precise comparison language such as “recorded,” “accounted for,” “was higher than,” and “stood at,” and check city names and key terms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including an overview beginning “While the result shows…” and comparisons introduced with “Moreover” and “In contrast.” However, many sentences contain errors that make the relationships between figures difficult to understand. For example, “the Went to a cafe… remined stable was rose” has an incomplete subject and conflicting verb forms, while “Adelaide, and Brisbane, decreased to 55% and 49%” does not form a clear grammatical comparison. Articles, plurals, and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “in last 4 week” and the run-on transition after “Hobart.” Build shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past-tense reporting verbs consistently.
