Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several relevant overall patterns: café visits are generally the most popular activity, while fresh-coffee purchases are often lower, and you compare cities rather than listing figures alone. However, the overview is not fully accurate: Adelaide’s café figure is lower than its instant-coffee figure, but instant coffee is not the preferred activity there overall, since café visits are slightly lower still. The claim that fresh coffee was the lowest in the last four weeks is also too broad; it was not the lowest category in every city. Some comparisons are incomplete or inaccurate, including saying Brisbane and Hobart had the same fresh-coffee rate when Hobart was higher. Select the main contrasts more precisely and support them with accurate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to comparisons between cities. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is weakened by grouping cities in ways that do not consistently support the comparisons: the final paragraph moves from Brisbane and Hobart to Adelaide without a clear organising principle. Some linking is awkward or incomplete, as in “While buying instant coffee…” and “In contrast,in Adelaide,” and the final sentence is unfinished. Use paragraphs organised around clear comparisons—for example, café attendance versus coffee purchases—and connect each sentence explicitly to the point before it. This would make the organisation more coherent and reduce abrupt shifts.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “bar chart,” “survey,” “buying instant coffee,” and “going to a cafe,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “city habitant’s,” “ratio” for a percentage, and “recorded the lowest.” Repetition of “recorded” and “people” also makes the description less precise. Spelling errors—including “cofee,” “percenatge,” “cofffee,” and “othe”—are noticeable and sometimes interrupt reading. Build a more accurate set of chart-description phrases, such as “the proportion of residents,” “accounted for,” and “stood at,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a sentence beginning “In contrast.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain errors in articles, agreement, or sentence construction. For example, “results of survey” needs an article, while “people buying fresh coffee was recorded” has an awkward subject–verb structure. The opening overview also lacks a complete grammatical structure around “in Adelaide, prefer buying instant coffee.” Punctuation is unreliable, particularly the missing space in “contrast,in,” and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise forming clear comparison sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, then proofread each sentence for completeness and punctuation.
