Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the three activities and make some relevant comparisons, including café visits being high in Hobart and Melbourne and instant coffee being popular in Hobart and Brisbane. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main pattern across all five cities. For example, café attendance is highest in Melbourne and Hobart, but your figures and wording are imprecise; Adelaide, not Brisbane, has the lowest café figure. You also say Sydney residents most preferred fresh coffee, although Sydney and Melbourne are close and Sydney is only slightly higher. Several comparisons are incomplete, and the final paragraph repeats claims rather than reporting the chart systematically. A clearer overview and accurate comparisons across all three categories would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has paragraph breaks and attempts to group café visits, instant coffee and fresh coffee, so there is some organisation. However, progression is difficult to follow because the first paragraph is a long, unclear introduction, and the two paragraphs beginning “OVERALL” repeat information instead of providing distinct functions. Linking phrases such as “HOWEVER” and “ON THE OTHER HAND” do not always show a clear contrast between the figures that follow. Some references, including “those who love to drink instant coffee,” are vague, and several ideas are joined without clear punctuation. Organise the report into an introduction, a concise overview, and focused detail paragraphs, using comparisons and linking words only where their relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt task-related vocabulary such as “proportion,” “residents,” “instant coffee,” and “in contrast,” but the range is limited and many choices are inaccurate or unnatural. Phrases such as “habitual nature to bought,” “peak at,” “second prioritize,” and “famous to go coffee bars” make the meaning difficult to interpret. There are also frequent spelling errors, including “porportion,” “austrilian,” “coffe,” and “prefered.” Some expressions are too informal or imprecise for a chart report, such as “hot liquids” and “people who love.” Use standard terms like “percentage,” “residents,” “recorded,” and “visited a café,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You make attempts to form longer sentences and use comparison structures, but control is inconsistent. Many sentences have faulty word order or incomplete grammatical relationships, as in “Hobart, Melbourne peaking at 64% went to cafe” and “Sydney and Melbourne contribution to buy fresh coffee feel slightly than those…” Subject–verb agreement and verb forms are also problematic, including “individuals least prefer” and “most prefered to bought.” Articles, plurals and punctuation are often missing or misplaced, which makes sentence boundaries unclear. These errors sometimes require the reader to infer the intended meaning. Practise writing short, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then combine them using accurate clauses such as “while” or “whereas.”
