Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the three survey measures and make relevant comparisons, including café attendance being highest in Sydney and Hobart and fresh-coffee purchases being lowest in Brisbane and Adelaide. However, the overview is vague and partly inaccurate: instant-coffee figures are not “almost 50% in all” cities, since Brisbane and Hobart are around 53% and 55%. The Melbourne detail also misreports instant coffee as 43%; it is about 48.5%. The response does not clearly summarise the main pattern that café visits lead in most cities, while instant coffee exceeds fresh coffee in every city. Develop a more precise overview and support it with accurate comparisons across the cities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to comparisons and a Melbourne detail. This gives the reader some organisation, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “On the other hand” signal relationships. However, progression is limited: the overview repeats the task rather than summarising the main trends, and the final paragraph introduces Melbourne without connecting it clearly to the preceding comparisons. Some transitions, including “Furthermore” and “Moreover,” are used mechanically, while “However” does not establish a clear contrast. Group the information by meaningful patterns—for example, café attendance versus the two purchase types—and use fewer, more precise linking expressions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary includes relevant chart language such as “proportion,” “population,” “ratio,” and “variations,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “love to drink,” “highest reach,” “constant results,” and “concentration on a cafe.” These expressions make some comparisons difficult to interpret. Spelling errors such as “austrailia,” “coffe,” “diffrent,” “frsh,” and “cutomers” are also noticeable. Use standard chart-reporting collocations, such as “the proportion who visited a café” or “the figure for instant coffee purchases,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish buying coffee from visiting cafés.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including clauses beginning “While” and “that,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in sentence structure and agreement appear in phrases such as “people went to a cafe … show highest reach” and “people bought instant coffee … shows constant results.” The opening sentence also has an unclear grammatical relationship between “proportion” and “survey.” Articles and prepositions are sometimes missing or awkward, as in “in last 4 weeks” and “go cafe.” These problems make several sentences difficult to follow, although the intended comparisons can usually be inferred. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences, then check agreement, articles, and complete clause structure.
