Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the three activities and report several figures that broadly match the chart, including Sydney’s fresh-coffee and instant-coffee results and the high café attendance in Melbourne and Hobart. However, the response mainly lists cities separately rather than summarising the main features or making meaningful comparisons. There is no clear overview of the overall pattern—for example, café visits are generally the most popular activity, while fresh coffee purchases are usually the least popular. Adelaide is especially under-reported: “some” people did each activity gives no usable figures or comparisons. Hobart’s fresh-coffee figure is also misreported as about 34%, rather than approximately 38.5%. Select key patterns, give an overview, and support it with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The city labels and repeated order of activities make it possible to follow which figures belong to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart. However, the response has little overall progression: it moves through five isolated mini-sections without an introduction that paraphrases the task or a concluding overview that draws the comparisons together. Repeated phrases such as “in last four weeks” and “in this city” make the organisation mechanical, while “respectively” is used where no clear paired list requires it. The Adelaide section also interrupts the pattern by giving no figures. Grouping cities by shared trends, and using clear links such as “by contrast” or “whereas,” would create a more coherent summary.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “fresh coffee,” “instant coffee,” “percentage,” “consumers” and “approximately,” so the reader can generally understand the subject and figures. However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “An information” is not a natural expression, “same case is apply” is unclear, and “fullfill their needs by went to a cafe” does not describe the chart naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “Australlia,” “persentage,” “caffee” and “enjoye.” Use precise reporting language and check spelling; for example, describe residents as “visited a café” rather than saying they “enjoyed their coffee,” which adds an unsupported detail.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts some complete sentences and uses basic past-tense reporting, such as “Sydney bought approximately 44% fresh coffee.” However, sentence structures are mostly simple and repetitive, and frequent errors affect accuracy. The opening contains faulty constructions (“we have an information” and “the name the name”), while “in this city same case is apply” has incorrect word order and verb form. Other problems include missing articles and spaces in “41%person,” inconsistent capitalisation at the start of sentences, and run-on punctuation after “respectively.” Practise accurate comparative sentences, such as “In Sydney, café visits were more common than purchases of either type of coffee,” and check articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries.
