Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the three activities and give a broad overview, noting that café visits are generally popular and fresh coffee is often the least popular. Several comparisons are relevant: Adelaide has the lowest café figure, Brisbane and Adelaide share the lowest fresh-coffee figure, and Hobart has the highest instant-coffee figure. However, some claims are inaccurate or unclear. Melbourne does not have the highest café figure; Hobart is marginally higher, while Melbourne has the highest fresh-coffee figure. The statement that Adelaide is the only city where instant coffee is preferred over café visits is also incorrect, as this is true in Brisbane and Hobart too. The report gives few precise figures and does not consistently compare all five cities, so the main features are only partly and unevenly developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs that attempt to group details, so the reader can recognise its general structure. However, the progression is not consistently logical: the final paragraph repeats points already made, and the conclusion introduces another summary rather than completing a clear comparison. Linking words such as “While,” “Regarding,” and “In conclusion” are sometimes awkwardly attached or used mechanically. The discussion also jumps between cities without a consistent grouping or comparison, and references such as “which makes them” are not always clear. Organise the body around meaningful patterns—for example, café visits, then coffee purchases—and use concise comparisons to connect the figures rather than repeating them.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “survey,” “figures,” “popular,” and “percent,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “survey happen,” “records for the lowest visit,” and “enjoy to bought instant coffee.” Repetition of “popular” and “figures” also makes the report less precise. Spelling errors—including “citites,” “coffe,” “Adelaid,” and “pupular”—are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for standard chart-report collocations such as “accounted for,” “recorded,” and “the proportion of residents,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses beginning with “While” and “which,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in examples such as “Melbourne have” and “people really enjoy to bought.” Some sentence boundaries and clause structures are also faulty: “While Adelaid is the only city…” is left as a fragment, and “Regarding, Hobart’s people…” uses an incomplete introductory construction. Articles and prepositions are sometimes missing or misplaced, as in “visited cafe” and “records for the lowest visit.” These problems can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise complete sentence structures and check subject–verb agreement and verb patterns when editing.
