Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify relevant comparisons, including the near-similar fresh and instant coffee figures in Sydney and the high café attendance in Melbourne and Hobart. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: café visits were highest in Melbourne and Hobart, not simply “among four cities,” and fresh coffee was not the least common activity in every city (in Sydney, fresh coffee slightly exceeded instant coffee? Actually it was slightly lower; in Melbourne and Hobart it was also lower, while the broader comparison needs clearer qualification). The claim that instant coffee preference was “almost double” fresh coffee in Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart is not supported by the chart. Several figures are omitted or only loosely described, and the response is one word below the required minimum. A clearer overview and accurate, selective comparisons would strengthen coverage of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, two paragraphs of comparisons, and a concluding overview. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Further,” and “Overall” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear. The second body paragraph groups Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart together without explaining their differences, while the final sentence introduces a broad claim that is difficult to interpret. Some connections are mechanical, and references such as “respectively” do not clearly identify which figures are being compared. Organise the body around clear patterns—for example, café attendance and coffee purchases—and use precise comparisons to make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “bar chart,” “residents,” “instant coffee,” and “cafe,” so the topic is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language, such as “After analyzing” and “Overall.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or awkward: “individuals purchasing Coffee, tea and consuming habits,” “people instant coffee preference,” and “cafe percentile” do not express the intended ideas naturally. “Negligible difference” also understates the comparison without giving a clear figure. Capitalisation is inconsistent, and “amound” is misspelled. Aim for precise chart language such as “the proportion of residents who bought” and “visited a café,” and check spelling and natural word combinations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “After analyzing the bar chart, it can be seen clearly that…” and comparative statements about the cities. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “The bar chart depict,” where the subject and verb do not agree, “people bought fresh and instant coffee,” which needs a suitable clause structure, and “In Melbourne, 5% residents prefer,” which is missing an article and uses an unsuitable tense for past-four-week survey results. The sentence beginning “Resident went cafe percentile” is also structurally unclear. Practise accurate past-tense reporting, articles, plural forms, and complete comparison structures; simpler, well-controlled sentences would improve clarity.
