Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give an overview, correctly noting that café visits are generally the highest category and fresh coffee purchases are often lower. Several comparisons are also broadly accurate: Brisbane and Adelaide have similar fresh-coffee figures, and Hobart’s café figure is around 63%. However, the overview is too general to capture the main pattern across all cities, and some details are unclear or incomplete. For example, “Hobart accounted people went to a cafe … and bought instant coffee, 63%, and under 55%” does not clearly assign each figure to its category. The claim that fresh coffee recorded the lowest percentages is not true in every city, since Adelaide’s café figure is also about 50%. Select the key highs and lows and report each comparison precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to two groups of city comparisons. Connectors such as “Overall,” “To begin with,” “Meanwhile,” and “In contrast” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression within the body paragraphs is difficult to follow because several cities and categories are combined in long, loosely connected sentences. The phrase “Another three noticable cities, Brisbane and adelaide…” is especially confusing, as it names two cities while referring to three. Some linking words do not clarify the relationship between ideas, and references such as “followed similar trend” leave the comparison unclear. Organise the details by category or by a consistent city grouping, and use shorter sentences with explicit comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentages,” “proportion,” “approximately,” and “accounted,” and you attempt to describe comparisons with “slightly” and “similar.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand. For instance, “the amount of drinking and buying coffee and tea habits” is not a natural description of the chart, while “went to people a cafe” and “followed cosidarable percentage” are unclear. Spelling errors are frequent, including “coffe,” “Australlia,” “instnat,” and “Hobert,” which can distract the reader. Use accurate terms such as “the percentage of residents who visited a café” and check spelling carefully before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including “Overall, it is clear that…” and a comparison beginning “Meanwhile, Melbourne people followed similar trend.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction often make relationships between information unclear. Examples include “the highest proportion … was went to cafe,” where the verb pattern is faulty, and “Hobart accounted people went to a cafe,” which lacks a workable grammatical structure. Articles and agreement are also unreliable, as in “followed similar trend” and “the highest proportion … was.” Punctuation and spacing around commas and full stops are inconsistent. Practise building clear comparison sentences with a subject, accurate verb, and category—for example, “The proportion visiting cafés was higher in Melbourne than in Adelaide.”
