Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the three measures and make some relevant comparisons, including the similar low fresh-coffee figures for Brisbane and Adelaide and Hobart’s high instant-coffee figure. However, the overview is not reliable: it says Sydney has the highest fresh-coffee result, although Sydney is only slightly above Melbourne, and claims Melbourne leads café visits, while Hobart and Melbourne are almost level and both exceed Sydney. The response also omits the main overall pattern that café visits are generally the most popular activity, while fresh coffee is usually the least popular. Develop a clearer, accurate overview and support it with selected figures—for example, café visits peak at about 63% in Melbourne and Hobart, whereas fresh coffee is lowest at roughly 34.5% in Brisbane and Adelaide.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph of comparisons, so the reader can recognise the intended stages. Some linking words, such as “Overall” and “firstly,” also signal movement between ideas. However, progression within the final paragraph is difficult to follow: comparisons shift rapidly between cities and activities, and several relationships are unclear, as in “brisbane and hobart between small diffrence in instant coffee.” The overview also conflicts with details later in the response, weakening the overall flow. Group information more systematically—for example, compare café attendance across all cities first, then discuss fresh and instant coffee—and use clear references and accurate linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “bought fresh coffee,” “instant coffee,” and “went to a cafe,” which helps communicate the chart categories. There are also attempts to describe comparisons through phrases such as “comparatively similar” and “small difference.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, including “coffee and tea purchase as well as drinking routine,” “highest number of people,” and “ahead then.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “illustrait,” “diffrence,” and “comparatively” also reduce precision. Aim for concise chart language and accurate collocations, such as “the proportion of residents,” “recorded the highest figure,” and “was slightly higher than.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast in “however sydney is ahead then melbourne in fresh coffee.” Nevertheless, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make comparisons hard to interpret. Examples include missing articles and possessives in “in five cities of australia,” faulty agreement in “brisbane and adelaide fresh coffee graph are,” and the incomplete construction “brisbane and hobart between small diffrence.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, with several ideas joined without clear separation. Practise building complete comparison sentences with a subject, verb, and clear comparator—for example, “Brisbane and Adelaide had similar fresh-coffee figures, at about 34.5% each”—and check capitalization, articles, and agreement.
