Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart topic and include several relevant figures, such as Sydney’s fresh-coffee and café figures and Adelaide’s instant-coffee figure. However, the response addresses the data only partially: it omits Brisbane and Hobart, and the overview is unclear and inaccurate in saying fresh coffee is “usually lower” without identifying the main pattern across all three categories. The claim that Adelaide is the only city where instant coffee has “gradually flourish” is not supported; instant coffee is also higher than fresh coffee in the other cities. The final statement that café visits are always higher is also incorrect, as Adelaide’s café figure is slightly below its instant-coffee figure. The response is 139 words, below the 150-word minimum. Include a clear overview and compare all five cities accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, a paragraph with city figures, and a brief conclusion. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and transitions such as “Overall,” “First,” and “However” signal relationships between points. However, progression is limited because the body covers Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide but leaves Brisbane and Hobart out, while the conclusion repeats a broad claim rather than drawing together the comparisons. Some linking is inaccurate or awkward, particularly “Similarly” followed by no specific Melbourne figures and “In sum up.” Organise the body around clear comparisons across all cities, and use linking phrases only where the relationship between the data is explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “bar chart,” “survey,” “bought fresh coffee,” “instant coffee,” and “went to a cafe.” These terms make the subject recognisable, but the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “three various colour uses for symbolizing” does not clearly describe the three chart categories, while “coffee community” appears to be an unsuitable substitute for café. Phrases such as “representing for bought fresh coffee” and “gradually flourish” also show weak collocation and word choice. Use precise reporting language such as “the proportion who bought” and “the figure for café visits,” and check that each noun refers to the correct activity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a comparison beginning “Similarly.” Nevertheless, sentence structures are often faulty, and errors can make relationships between figures unclear. Examples include “in melbourne has also almost same like the sydney,” which lacks a clear subject and has an incomplete comparison, and “almost 62% individuals are went,” where the verb form is incorrect. The overview sentence beginning “Bought fresh coffee in last fourth weeks” is also not a complete, well-formed sentence. Focus on accurate subject–verb patterns and complete clauses: for example, “In Melbourne, the figures were similar to Sydney’s.” Use past-tense reporting consistently and proofread articles, agreement and sentence boundaries.
