Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify relevant overall patterns: café visits are generally the most popular activity, while fresh-coffee purchases are comparatively low, and you correctly note Adelaide’s café figure as the lowest. The reported café percentages for Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney are also broadly accurate. However, the response covers only a limited selection of the chart and does not give a complete comparison across all five cities and all three activities. The instant-coffee discussion is unfinished and includes a substantial error: Hobart is about 55%, not 59%, and is the highest city for this category. The overview also says café visits were highest in every city except Adelaide, but in Adelaide instant coffee is slightly higher. Develop the overview and report the main contrasts more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: an introduction is followed by an overview and then paragraphs attempting to discuss café visits and instant coffee. However, progression is difficult to follow because the final paragraph breaks off at “Brisbon, on the other hand shoe,” leaving the comparison incomplete. Several transitions are also awkward or unclear, such as “According to Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney” and “Turning back to Brisbane,” which do not clearly signal how the information relates. The response shifts between cities and categories without a consistent comparison pattern. Grouping the data by activity, and comparing all five cities within each group, would make the sequence easier to follow. Use linking phrases only where they accurately express a contrast or continuation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of chart-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “recorded,” “accounted” and “approximately,” and the reader can usually identify the activities being discussed. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “visiting to a cafe,” “largest ratio,” and “lower percentage compare” do not sound natural in this context. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “bie,” “coffe,” “repectively,” “propotion” and “Brisbon,” which reduce clarity and control. Prefer precise, familiar reporting language such as “the proportion who visited a café” and “the highest figure.” Check spelling carefully and avoid using “ratio” when describing percentages.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex structures, including “In contrast” clauses and a relative clause beginning “where,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “visiting … were witnessed higher proportion” and “bought fresh coffee … experienced a lower percentage.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation also cause problems: there is no space after “Adelaide.”, and the final sentence is incomplete. Other constructions, such as “According to Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney, whereas three cities accounted…,” do not form a clear grammatical sentence. Build comparisons with a reliable pattern, for example, “The proportion visiting cafés was highest in Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney.” Practise complete sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation.
