Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the three survey measures and report several relevant comparisons, including the high café figures in Melbourne and Hobart, Adelaide’s low café result, and the low fresh-coffee figures in Brisbane and Adelaide. These are useful main features, and most figures are broadly consistent with the chart. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the overall pattern: café visits are highest in Melbourne and Hobart, while instant coffee is the most popular measure in Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart. The claim that Sydney’s café result is only 2% different from Melbourne and Hobart is also imprecise; Sydney is about 2–3 percentage points lower. Develop the overview and compare the three categories more systematically.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs giving specific comparisons. This makes the information broadly easy to follow, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “While” show an attempt to link related points. However, the overview repeats the categories rather than clearly grouping the main trends, and the body moves between café attendance, instant coffee and fresh coffee without a consistent comparison plan. Some references are also unclear, as in “Sydney had same as that two cities,” where the reader must infer which cities and measure are meant. Organise the details by measure or by contrasting city groups, and use clearer links between each comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “bar graph,” “survey,” “fresh coffee,” “instant coffee” and “percentage,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range of natural reporting language is limited, and several word choices or collocations make the description awkward, such as “people had highly went cafe,” “lowest bought fresh coffee,” and “same as that two cities.” There are also spelling errors in “Sydeney” and “lat weeks.” Use precise verbs and comparison phrases, for example “the proportion who visited a café was highest” and “recorded the lowest figure.” Varying terms such as “share,” “proportion” and “percentage” would also make the report more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast with “While in Brisbane only 2% less then Hobart.” However, sentence structures are often incomplete or incorrectly formed, which sometimes makes the intended comparison difficult to understand. For example, “Overall, in graph describe three different types of people” lacks a clear subject and verb, while “people had highly went cafe” combines verb forms incorrectly. Articles and prepositions are also missing in phrases such as “went cafe” and “in graph.” Build sentences around a clear subject and finite verb, and check tense and comparison structures. For instance: “The proportion visiting cafés was highest in Melbourne and Hobart.”
