Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You provide a clear overview of the main pattern: café visits are the most popular activity overall, while fresh coffee purchases are generally lower. You also make relevant city comparisons and include approximate figures, such as café visits in Melbourne and Hobart and fresh coffee purchases in Sydney. This covers the task well, with some features more fully reported than others. However, a few details are inaccurate or imprecise: Hobart’s café figure is about 63%, not nearly 65%, and instant coffee is highest in Hobart at about 54.5%, rather than equally highest in Hobart and Brisbane. The overview also overgeneralises fresh coffee as least common in every city, since Adelaide’s café figure is slightly below its instant-coffee figure but above fresh coffee. More precise comparisons would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introductory overview is followed by paragraphs describing café visits, instant coffee and fresh coffee. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “By contrast” help signal comparisons. The progression is not fully smooth, however. The second paragraph focuses on cafés, while the final paragraph moves between instant and fresh coffee, making the grouping less consistent. Some transitions are also awkward or mechanical, particularly “While instant coffees sales…” and “For rest of the cities…”. Organise the body by a clearer comparison pattern—for example, café attendance first, then the two purchase categories—and use references that make each comparison explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “consumption,” “proportion,” “sales,” and “less common,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language, such as “remained hovering,” although this collocation is not natural for describing percentages. Several choices are imprecise or repetitive: “had their coffees frequently in cafes” is less suitable than a direct description of café attendance, and “instant coffees” is usually expressed as “instant coffee” when referring to the product category. Spelling and word-form slips such as “cafee” and “t0” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations rather than adding formal-sounding phrases that do not fit the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex structures, including contrast clauses with “While” and “By contrast,” and most of the intended comparisons can be understood. However, some sentence structures and punctuation are faulty, which limits control. For example, “While instant coffees sales remained hovering…” is an incomplete clause, and “For rest of the cities this figure remained nearly 35% but Hobart is the only exception” shifts tense and needs clearer clause punctuation. There are also errors in articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “was most popular habit” and the run-together opening “Australia.Overall”. Work on complete sentences, consistent past-tense reporting, and punctuation around introductory and contrasting clauses. These changes would make your range more controlled.
