Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the three measures and report several relevant figures, including fresh-coffee purchases in Sydney (about 44%) and Adelaide (about 34%), and café visits in Sydney (61%). However, the response only partially summarises the chart: the overview is unclear and includes inaccurate claims. Hobart does not show a general rise in fresh-coffee buying, and Brisbane was not the highest for café visits; Melbourne and Hobart were highest, at about 63%. The statement that fresh coffee is “the minority” is also not a useful comparison without clarifying what it is being compared with. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the main patterns, accurately identify the highest and lowest figures, and compare the three categories across cities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for fresh/instant coffee and café visits. This gives the reader some organisation, and the figures are generally grouped by topic. However, progression is weakened by unclear or contradictory statements, such as “Hobert district rises buying fresh cofee rates fall down gradually,” and by abrupt comparisons such as “Other three countries lies between 50 to 55%.” Linking and referencing are also limited, so relationships between the figures are not always clear. Use a more direct sequence—overview first, then category-by-category comparisons—and connect contrasts explicitly with phrases such as “whereas” and “by comparison.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “purchasing,” “inhabitants,” “consumers,” and “approximately,” and you attempt to vary how residents are described. However, many choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes obscure the intended meaning: “district rises buying,” “same division,” “facilitators to a cafe,” and “largest fall” do not describe the chart clearly. There are also repeated spelling errors, including “cofee,” “Hobert,” and “sydney.” Prefer precise chart language such as “the proportion of residents who bought,” “recorded,” and “visited a café.” Reusing accurate terms like “residents” and “percentage” is better than substituting words that do not fit the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, but control of sentence structure is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships difficult to follow. For example, “Customers of Brisbane was high ranking who went to cafe” has faulty agreement and an unclear clause, while “Other three countries lies between 50 to 55%” has problems with articles, agreement, and the comparison pattern. The overview sentence beginning “Overall” is also difficult to interpret because its clauses do not form a clear grammatical relationship. Build reliable sentences around a subject and verb—for example, “The proportion of residents visiting cafés was highest in Melbourne and Hobart”—and check agreement, articles, and plural forms. Use a few accurate complex comparisons rather than forcing longer constructions.
