Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main pattern that café visits were generally the most popular activity and fresh coffee purchases were comparatively low, and you include several relevant city comparisons. However, the overview is not fully accurate: fresh coffee was not the lowest category in every city, since instant coffee was lower in Sydney, while café visits were not highest in Adelaide. Some details are also misreported or unclear: Sydney’s fresh-coffee figure was not the highest (Melbourne was slightly lower, while Sydney was higher than the other cities), and Hobart had the highest instant-coffee figure. To strengthen the response, give a precise overview of the contrasting patterns and compare the three activities consistently across the cities, rather than relying on broad claims such as “average users.”

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing café visits and coffee purchases. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression is uneven: the final paragraph repeats the comparison with café visits before moving to fresh and instant coffee, and the sequence of cities in the café paragraph is difficult to follow. Linking phrases such as “Now,” “then moving to,” and “while” are used mechanically, and some references, including “these cities” and “another one city,” are not precise. Organise the body by category or by clear comparisons, and use concise transitions so each paragraph develops one main point without repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “users,” “fresh coffee,” “instant coffee,” and “went to a café,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are awkward or repetitive, such as “percentage ratio,” “the individuals,” and “the ratio of individuals.” There are also frequent spelling errors in key words and place names, including “Austrillian,” “survical,” “Melbourn,” “sydeny,” and “habart,” which reduce clarity and control. Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “the proportion of residents” and “bought fresh coffee,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid repeatedly calling residents “users” when describing survey results.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response is divided into paragraphs, but control of sentence structure is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and sentence construction appear in examples such as “these cities has average users” and “the individuals … shows the highest,” while “the Sydney accounted just above 60 percentage compare to Melbourn” lacks a clear grammatical comparison. Several sentences run together, particularly in the final paragraph, where punctuation is missing before “while.” Articles, plurals and prepositions are also often inaccurate. Use shorter, complete sentences to report each comparison, and check that the subject and verb agree and that each sentence has clear punctuation.
