Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and make a relevant attempt to summarise patterns, including that café visits are high and fresh-coffee purchases are generally lower. However, the overview is unclear and contains inaccurate claims: café attendance exceeded 60% only in Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart, not Brisbane, while instant coffee was highest in Brisbane and Hobart, rather than Adelaide. The statement that fresh coffee was the least popular in every city also overlooks Adelaide, where café visits and fresh-coffee purchases are almost equal. Several figures and comparisons are missing, so the main features are only partly reported. The response is also 19 words below the required minimum; develop the overview and add accurate city comparisons to cover the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, moving from an introduction and overview to city comparisons. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “In contrast” help signal these functions. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview combines unclear fragments, for example, “The percentage cafe for coffee and tea in last 4 weeks in all five districts,” and the later comparisons are not grouped or developed consistently. Some connections are also confusing: “the habit of bought instant coffee was second possion” does not clearly explain what is being compared. Use distinct paragraphs for the overview and key details, and connect each comparison explicitly to the relevant cities and categories.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “bar graph,” “instant coffee” and “in contrast,” so the reader can recognise the topic and intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand, such as “the percentage cafe,” “second possion” and “the least percentage habit.” There are also frequent spelling errors, including “disctricts,” “instabt” and “coffgee,” which reduce clarity. Aim to use precise chart language consistently, such as “the proportion of residents,” “recorded the highest figure” and “purchased fresh coffee.” Check spelling carefully and avoid forcing phrases that do not fit the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a few different sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “In contrast,” but control of basic sentence structure is weak. The opening has a subject–verb agreement error (“The bar graph illustrate”), and the overview contains sentence fragments, such as “where as bought instant coffee moderate increasing percentage over the weeks.” Verb forms and sentence construction are also faulty in “more than 60% were went to a cafe” and “the habit of bought instant coffee.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, particularly after “Overall” and around the city list. Build clear simple sentences first, checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, then add accurate comparisons using subordinate clauses.
