Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the chart’s general subject and reports some relevant figures, especially café visits and instant-coffee purchases. However, the account is substantially incomplete and includes a major misreading: Hobart’s 62% is assigned to buying fresh coffee, whereas it represents café visits; fresh-coffee figures are not otherwise accurately summarised. The final section begins “Lastly there is 44%” but gives no city or category, leaving the fresh-coffee series unfinished. The overview merely lists the cities and says residents have these habits, rather than highlighting the main pattern that café visits are generally most popular and fresh coffee least popular. Select and compare the key series accurately, and provide a complete overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation: an opening, an overview, and sections introduced by “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “Lastly.” These markers help the reader recognise the intended sequence. However, progression is limited because the overview only names the cities, and the body shifts between categories and cities without a consistent comparison structure. For example, the first section mixes café figures with a fresh-coffee claim, while the final section stops after “Lastly there is 44%.” Some links are also awkward or unclear, such as “they have smalle difference.” Group the information by category, compare cities within each group, and use clear references so each figure’s category and location are immediately apparent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “percentage,” “instant coffee,” “fresh coffee,” and “lowest,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, vocabulary is limited and repeated, and frequent spelling errors—such as “habbits,” “buing,” “residendts,” and “percantage”—make the writing less clear and less controlled. Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, including “at second number,” “large amount of people,” and “the percentage is comparatively slow.” Use accurate chart language such as “proportion,” “ranked second,” and “was lower,” and check spelling carefully. More precise verbs and comparison phrases would help distinguish buying coffee from visiting a café.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but the range is limited and errors recur in basic sentence construction. For example, “The charts illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “there are five cities of Australia include” lacks a correct clause structure. Articles and prepositions are also unreliable in phrases such as “went to cafe” and “in the result of survey.” Several sentences are fragments or incomplete, most clearly “Lastly there is 44%,” which does not identify what the figure describes. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, check agreement and articles, and practise combining comparisons accurately—for example, “Café visits were highest in Melbourne, at about 64%.”
