Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the chart’s subject and attempt to report comparisons, including café visits and fresh and instant coffee. However, the response is very incomplete: it gives only a few claims and no clear overview of the main pattern across all five cities. Some details are inaccurate: Melbourne, not the city with the highest café figure, is described as having the most café visits; Sydney is highest at about 61%, while Melbourne and Hobart are both around 63%. Brisbane is not the highest for instant coffee; Hobart is. The response also falls 63 words short of the 150-word minimum. To improve, include an accurate overview and compare the main highs and lows across the cities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the chart, then gives a few comparisons. Phrases such as “As we see” and “on the other hand” show an attempt to connect ideas, and the short paragraphs make the text easy to separate. However, the progression is limited, and the final paragraph groups several claims without developing or clearly linking them. The contrast introduced by “on the other hand” is not fully explained, and there is no concluding overview. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and a paragraph comparing the figures. Use linking expressions only where they accurately show the relationship between the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “survey,” “comparison,” “fresh coffee,” “instant coffee,” and “cafe,” so the reader can recognise the topic. However, the range is narrow and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “peoples habit,” “take coffee,” and “went cafe.” Spelling errors including “buing,” “beteween,” “melborne,” and “countreis” also make the writing less clear and reduce precision. Aim for standard chart-reporting expressions such as “the proportion of residents,” “bought fresh coffee,” and “visited a café.” Check spelling carefully and use the same precise terms as the chart rather than describing the categories loosely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a few sentence patterns, including a contrast with “but on the other hand” and a conditional opening, “If we talk about instant coffee.” Most sentences are understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “people takes” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “their are” uses the wrong form of “there.” In “how the take coffee or tea,” the clause structure and pronoun are faulty, and “people from melborne went cafe most” lacks the articles and grammatical structure needed for a clear comparison. Use straightforward, complete sentences with accurate agreement and articles, then add more varied structures once these are secure.
