Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify relevant overall patterns: café visits are generally the most popular activity, while instant coffee purchases exceed fresh coffee purchases in every city. You also include several useful comparisons, such as café figures in Melbourne and Hobart and fresh coffee being highest in Sydney. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: fresh coffee does not gradually decrease from Sydney across the cities, since Hobart is higher than Brisbane and Adelaide. The claim that fresh coffee is the lowest category is also not true in every city, as Adelaide’s café figure is slightly below its fresh-coffee figure. Some figures and comparisons are omitted or imprecise, and the discussion of buying and drinking habits is not always clearly distinguished. A more accurate overview and carefully selected comparisons would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for café visits and coffee purchases. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression is uneven: the overview repeats points that are then revisited, and the final paragraph moves between instant and fresh coffee without a clear sequence of city-by-city comparisons. Linking is also sometimes awkward, as in “Overall …, Moreover,” and several ideas are joined in long, unclear sentences. Use a consistent comparison pattern—for example, describe café attendance across all cities, then compare the two purchase types—and make each paragraph’s focus explicit. This would improve the flow and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “survey,” “percentage,” “purchasing,” and “fresh coffee” and “instant coffee,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “amount of consumption,” “caffein consumption,” and “more eager to had coffee from cafe” do not express the chart information naturally; the chart reports residents’ actions, not the amount consumed. Spelling errors such as “purchaseing,” “consuption,” “Melboume,” and “coffe” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise reporting verbs and phrases such as “the proportion who bought” or “visited a café,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors often make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “Overall, the amount of consumption … and the highest was at the sydney” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “People amr more eager to had coffee” has faulty verb forms. There are also problems with agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “Most of the people … went to the cafe … shows the higest percentage,” and punctuation is frequently missing or misplaced. Build comparisons with complete, controlled clauses, such as “Café visits were highest in Melbourne and Hobart.” Practise past-tense reporting and the patterns “the proportion of residents who…” and “higher than…”.
