Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover all three measures and all five cities, and your overview identifies the broad contrast between café visits, instant coffee and fresh coffee. Several comparisons are supported with figures, such as café attendance being highest in Melbourne and Hobart and fresh coffee falling to about 34% in Brisbane. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: instant coffee in Sydney is about 45.5%, not 47%, and café attendance in Hobart is about 63%, not 65%. The overview also says café visits “rose consistently,” although the figures vary by city rather than showing a rise over time. The fresh-coffee pattern is described as a gradual decrease, despite a small recovery in Adelaide and Hobart. Make the overview more precise and select the main highs and lows clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, with the data grouped by category. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the chart. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, relying on “To initiate with,” “Subsequently,” “Followed by” and “Heading towards.” Some links do not express the relationship accurately: “While” begins a fragment, and “On the other hand” is used where a straightforward comparison would be clearer. Punctuation and spacing also interrupt the flow, particularly in “Overall,The chart” and “In addition,it.” Use simpler transitions such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile,” and connect each city comparison in complete, clearly punctuated sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “approximately,” “fluctuated” and “dropped,” and the reader can generally understand the categories being compared. However, some choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing static city data. “Rose consistently” suggests a trend over time, while “decrease gradually” does not fit the small rises in the final cities. Phrases such as “To initiate with,” “estimatedly” and “near about” are awkward, and “person’s habits” is imprecise. Spelling errors, including “illustartes,” “Austrailia,” “sydeny” and “decresed,” also reduce control. Aim for precise reporting verbs and standard collocations, and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, sentence boundaries and clause structure are not consistently controlled. For example, “While, in Melbourne and Brisbane it rose…” is a fragment, and “To initiate with the percentage … to around 47%” lacks a complete main clause. There are also errors in agreement and verb forms, as in “the residents … who bought instant coffee was,” and inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation. These problems sometimes make comparisons harder to follow. Build each comparison around a complete subject and verb, check singular/plural agreement, and use full stops rather than joining several clauses with commas or sentence fragments.
