Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the topic and mention several relevant comparisons, including café visits and fresh-coffee purchases in Brisbane and Adelaide. However, the overview is unclear and contains a major misreading: you call Brisbane and Adelaide the cities with the lowest instant-coffee figures, whereas they are among the highest; Sydney is lowest. The claim that Melbourne and Hobart have the highest percentages is also too broad, since café visits are highest in Melbourne and Hobart, but other categories have different leaders. Several figures are inaccurate or confusing, and the response does not clearly summarise the main patterns across all three categories. It is also four words below the required minimum. To improve, give a precise overview and support it with accurate, clearly attributed comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction and overview are followed by two detail paragraphs. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow, and the comparisons are not consistently grouped or explained. For example, “the increases to went a shop” does not clearly connect the café figures to the cities, while “on the other hand” introduces fresh coffee without a clear contrast. Linking phrases such as “To begin with” and “on the other hand” are attempted, but their use is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. Organise the details by category, use clear city-to-city comparisons, and make each sentence’s relationship to the previous one explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “instant coffee,” and “fresh coffee,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand. Phrases such as “their interest went to a cafe,” “went a shop,” and “small fluchvation” are not natural ways to describe the chart. Spelling errors, including “decreses,” “precent,” and “Adekaide,” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise chart language such as “the proportion who visited a café” and “the figure remained relatively stable.” Check spelling carefully and avoid using vague expressions when a direct description of a percentage or trend is possible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to use more than simple statements, but the range of sentence structures is very limited and errors are frequent enough to obscure some comparisons. For example, “The lowest percentage of the both Brisbane and Adekaide was bought instant coffee” lacks a clear grammatical relationship between the cities and the measure. The fragment “Bought instant coffee in last 4 weeks it is showed…” also has faulty word order and verb construction. Articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries are often problematic, as in “the drop to bought a fresh coffee.” Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “The proportion buying fresh coffee was the same in Brisbane and Adelaide.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and punctuation between clauses.
