Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the chart’s subject and attempt an overview, but the response addresses the task only partially. The overview correctly notes that café visits are relatively low in Adelaide and that fresh coffee purchases peak in Sydney, but it incorrectly names Melbourne as the highest for café visits; Hobart is marginally highest, with Melbourne close behind. The claim that Brisbane and Hobart prefer instant coffee is supported, though instant coffee is also the leading purchase in Adelaide. Your comparison of Sydney includes figures close to the chart, but the response stops before reporting the other cities or completing the sentence about Melbourne. At 102 words, it also falls short of the required 150. Include a complete overview and compare the main patterns across all five cities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by an overview and then a city-specific detail paragraph. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “Moreover” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited because the detail section covers only Sydney and begins an unfinished sentence about Melbourne (“Melbourne people are is in pick”). The overview also groups several claims together without a clear comparison structure, making the main patterns harder to follow. To improve, organise the body by category or by city, use clear comparisons between the figures, and ensure every paragraph and sentence is complete. This would create a more coherent progression rather than a sequence of partly developed observations.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses enough chart-related vocabulary to communicate its general subject, including “percentage,” “purchased,” “drinking habits,” and “prefer instant coffee.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward, such as “cafe going people,” “urban area,” and “in pick.” Spelling errors including “poeple” and “repectively” also reduce precision. Some wording is repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “people” and “coffee.” Use standard chart language and precise collocations, for example “the proportion of residents who visited a café” and “the highest figure for fresh coffee purchases.” Check spelling carefully and vary terms such as “residents,” “consumers,” and “the proportion.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and more developed sentences, including “Moreover, people who bought fresh coffee the highest number is in the Sydney.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are faulty. For example, “the lowest cafe people are in Adelaide” lacks a clear grammatical construction, while “Melbourne people are is in pick” contains an incorrect verb sequence and is incomplete. In “people who bought fresh coffee the highest number is,” the clause structure does not clearly connect the subject and its comparison. Use straightforward, complete patterns such as “The highest proportion of fresh-coffee buyers was in Sydney.” Practise subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence completion, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
