Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant comparisons, including café visits being highest in Melbourne and Hobart and lower in Adelaide. Your overview also attempts to highlight patterns across the cities. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: Sydney’s fresh-coffee figure is not the highest (Melbourne is close, and Sydney is about 44%), while Brisbane and Adelaide are around 34.5%, not 32%. Brisbane is not the leading city for instant coffee; Hobart is highest, followed by Brisbane. The overview also says Hobart has the most café visits, although Melbourne is marginally higher. More precise comparisons and a clearer summary of the main patterns would make the response more complete and reliable.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs giving figures for coffee purchases and café visits. This makes the information broadly easy to follow. Some links between ideas are less clear, however. The overview’s claims about which cities lead are difficult to reconcile with the later figures, and phrases such as “at the other end of scale” do not clearly signal the comparison being made. The final sentence gives Sydney’s café figure but “respectively” has no clear paired reference. Use more precise transitions and organise each paragraph around a clear comparison, checking that the overview agrees with the details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “survey,” “prefer,” and “highest,” so the reader can understand the general topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report awkward: “the least to buy fresh coffee,” “choose to go in cafe,” and “people remains almost same.” Spelling errors such as “Melboure,” “Brisbane” written as “Brsbane,” and “peolpe” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard chart language such as “the proportion of residents who bought” and “visited a café,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish buying habits from café visits.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, for example using “while” to contrast fresh-coffee figures. However, sentence structures are limited, and errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur in several places. In “Brisbane and Adelaide is the least,” the plural subject requires “are”; “63% of Melbourne and Hobart choose to go in cafe” needs a clearer grammatical structure and an article before “café.” The opening sentence also lacks consistent sentence-case capitalization and has an awkwardly joined list of cities. Practise accurate comparison patterns, such as “The figures for Brisbane and Adelaide were the lowest,” and vary these with well-controlled complex sentences.
