Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main transformation: the central tables and chairs were removed, and new facilities such as a café, computer room and lecture room were added. Several comparisons are also relevant, including the change from the former reading room to a computer room and from the enquiry desk area to a café. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the sofas are in the former CDs/videos/games room, while the storytelling and children’s fiction area occupies that room; the computer room is in the former reading-room location at the bottom left, not the south-east corner. You also omit the new lecture room’s position and the former children’s-books room. A more precise overview and clearer location-based comparisons would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an overall progression, moving from a brief overview to a series of comparisons, and words such as “Overall,” “Firstly” and “previously” help signal relationships. However, the overview repeats the idea that many changes occurred without clearly grouping the main changes, and the long second paragraph combines several locations in a way that is difficult to follow. For example, the sentence beginning “the sitting place has been changed to sofa” moves between the central area and the former media room without clear boundaries. Organise the details into clearer groups—perhaps left and right sides, or old and new facilities—and use explicit references such as “in the former…” to make the comparisons easier to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a library plan, including “entrance,” “self service machines,” “adult non fiction” and “lecture room,” so the reader can understand most of the changes. There is some useful variety in phrases such as “removed,” “shifted” and “in place of.” However, several expressions are imprecise or awkward, including “sofa sitting,” “the space made empty” and “fiction books are shifted to west side.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “childrens” and “cafe” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard map-description collocations and consistent labels from the plan, for example “the seating area was removed” and “the café was added.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences that compare the two plans, but control is uneven. Errors in verb forms and sentence construction appear in phrases such as “The entrance is been same” and “lots of change has been done,” while “The space were remain same” combines incompatible verb forms. Agreement and articles are also inconsistent, as in “tables and chair are removed” and “a new cafe has been madein place.” Several ideas are joined with commas rather than being separated into complete sentences, which makes the longer comparisons harder to read. Practise accurate past-versus-present forms and build comparisons with clear clauses, such as “The former reading room has been converted into a computer room.”
