Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant changes, including the removal of the central tables and chairs, the replacement of the reading room with a computer room, and the addition of a café and lecture room. However, the response only partially summarises the plans: it gives no clear overview of the main reorganisation and omits important features such as the former adult non-fiction area becoming reference books, and the new information desk and self-service machines. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the café is in the bottom-right area, not directly in front of the entrance, and the enquiry desk is not described as being just to the right of the entrance. The final claim about greater pupil satisfaction is unsupported by the diagram. Select the main changes accurately and avoid speculation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from the entrance area to other facilities and ending with a summary. Comparisons such as “in comparison today” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships between the two plans. However, progression is not consistently clear: several features are listed in long sentences, and the reader has to work out which plan each detail refers to. Connectors such as “moreover” and “in comparison to that” are sometimes awkward or do not clearly link the ideas. The conclusion repeats that the plans differ without summarising the most significant changes. Grouping the information by areas or by changes, and using clear references such as “formerly” and “now,” would make the account easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “floor plan,” “reading room,” “adult fiction books,” and “lecture room,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or informal. Phrases such as “back ago,” “right front of entrance,” “all other stuff,” and “humans can enjoy some coffee with peaceful mind” are not suitable for a concise map description and can make meaning less precise. There are also spelling errors, including “wheares,” “Futhermore,” and “prehaps.” Aim for neutral, precise language to describe location and change, for example “to the right of the entrance” and “was replaced by.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses, as in “where people can easily get newspapers and magazines,” and you use past and present forms to compare the plans. However, sentence structures are limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include missing or misplaced articles in “illustrates floor plan” and “right front of entrance,” inconsistent tense in “there was adult fiction books,” and faulty sentence construction in “there is a adverse different.” Plural agreement and punctuation also need attention, particularly in long sentences joined by commas. Practise accurate simple comparison patterns first, then extend them with clauses, checking articles, verb agreement, and sentence boundaries.
