Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the floor plan, identifying key changes such as the addition of a cafe and the relocation of various sections. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary statement that highlights the most significant trends or transformations, which is a requirement for a high band score in Task 1. The description is somewhat repetitive and relies heavily on listing items rather than synthesizing the information. To improve, you should group related changes together and provide a concise summary of the overall transformation in the introduction or conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and mechanical. Phrases like 'On the left side of entrance' and 'Opposite to this' are repeated frequently, making the flow feel somewhat stilted. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some transitions between sentences are abrupt. To improve, try using a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' or 'Conversely' to better connect your ideas and improve the logical flow of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple descriptive terms like 'totally different' and 'related to technology.' There is little attempt to use more precise or academic vocabulary to describe spatial arrangements or changes. For example, instead of saying 'It is totally different,' you could use 'The layout has undergone a significant transformation.' Expanding your range to include more specific terminology related to floor plans and facility descriptions would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('on right side of entrance'), incorrect preposition usage, and subject-verb agreement errors ('CDs, Videos computer games which is related'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the misuse of the apostrophe in 'it's' (which should be 'its'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity and professionalism of the writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and article usage will help improve accuracy.
