Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the library floor plan and made relevant comparisons between the two time periods. You covered the key changes, such as the conversion of the reading room and enquiry office. However, the overview is slightly weak; it focuses on subjective descriptions like 'modernity' rather than summarizing the most significant structural changes. To improve, ensure your overview highlights the most prominent spatial shifts, such as the relocation of the computer room and the introduction of new facilities like the lecture room. The response is accurate in its reporting of the visual data provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the past to the present. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For example, you rely heavily on simple transitions like 'On the left side' and 'The right side'. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, such as 'In contrast,' 'Subsequently,' or 'Conversely.' Additionally, ensure that referencing is clear throughout the text to avoid ambiguity when describing the layout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the floor plan, using terms like 'enquiry staff room,' 'cafeteria,' and 'lecture room.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'roof strategy' (which is incorrect for a floor plan) and 'to aware themselves' (which should be 'to keep themselves informed'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. Avoid informal phrasing like 'etc.' and 'get physical lectures,' as these are less appropriate for an Academic Task 1 report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'it's present physical appearance' (should be 'its'), '20 years before' (should be '20 years ago'), and 'enquiry office and reading room is replaced' (should be 'are replaced'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of semicolons and commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of possessive pronouns. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
