Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the library floor plan and made relevant comparisons between the two time periods. You covered the key changes, such as the introduction of the cafe and the relocation of the reference and computer rooms. However, the response could be improved by providing a more cohesive overview of the most significant changes rather than just listing them. Additionally, some descriptions are slightly imprecise, such as referring to 'four directions' rather than specific areas or corners. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a clear summary of the overall transformation in the introduction.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the past to the present. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'Turning to the first diagram', 'Taking a closer look at diagram second'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when describing locations, which makes the spatial relationships difficult to visualize. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that spatial references are more precise would enhance the flow and logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the floor plan, using terms like 'transformed', 'equipped', and 'self-service machines'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in the same direction' (should be 'in the same location') and 'consisted of newspapers' (should be 'contained' or 'housed'). Some phrasing is also slightly unnatural, such as 'diagram second'. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for spatial descriptions and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate for a formal report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' entrance, 'the' library) and prepositions ('on right side', 'in four directions'). There are also issues with punctuation, such as unnecessary spaces before commas and inconsistent capitalization. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of definite and indefinite articles will help improve your accuracy.
