Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers the main features of the floor plan changes well. You successfully identified key transformations, such as the addition of the cafe and the relocation of the computer room. However, the overview is slightly underdeveloped; while you mention 'numerous changes', it would be more effective to highlight the most significant shift, such as the transition from a traditional reading-focused space to a more modern, multi-functional facility. The description of the layout is generally accurate, though some spatial references are slightly confusing, such as the description of the east side. Overall, you have addressed the requirements of the task effectively by comparing the two time periods.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the changes. You use transition signals like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Although' to connect your ideas. However, some cohesive devices are used mechanically or slightly incorrectly, such as 'Although' at the start of the final sentence, which does not fit the context of the preceding information. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, particularly when describing the movement of specific areas. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'floor plan', 'facilities', 'established', and 'eliminated'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'modern machines are provided' instead of 'modern facilities have been installed' and 'changet' (a spelling error). You also struggle with some prepositions and articles, which occasionally affects the precision of your descriptions. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to spatial changes, such as 'converted into', 'relocated', or 'transformed', and ensure consistent spelling throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'their are numerous changes', 'their was Adult fiction books') and article usage (e.g., 'by the entrance', 'at right side'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that hinder the flow. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, especially with 'there is/are' constructions and pluralization, will significantly improve your writing.
