Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main changes between the two floor plans. However, the overview is somewhat generic and lacks a clear summary of the most significant transformations. While the student mentions several areas, such as the children's fiction room and the reading room, the description is occasionally inaccurate (e.g., stating the adult fiction area remains in the same place when the diagram shows it has been relocated). The report covers the main features but lacks the precision required for a higher band, as some comparisons are vague or confusingly phrased.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. For example, the transition 'In first whole' is non-standard, and the use of 'Secondly' does not logically follow the previous paragraph. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which area of the library is being discussed. The progression of ideas is present but lacks the smooth flow expected at higher levels, as the sentences feel somewhat disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'a minor place for storytelling events' and 'resultant library become more significant'. The student attempts to use descriptive language, but the lack of precision in terminology (e.g., 'independent machines' for self-service kiosks) limits the score. Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to convey the information with the necessary flexibility or sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical errors are frequent and pervasive. Issues include missing articles ('a cafe's'), incorrect verb tenses ('a children's book area changes and become'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('library become'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect apostrophe usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
