Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the ability to provide a comprehensive overview or detailed comparisons. While the introduction attempts to set the scene, the body paragraphs are incomplete and fail to cover all the significant changes shown in the floor plan. The description of the library's transformation is fragmented and stops abruptly, meaning the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must ensure you describe all key features of the diagram and provide a clear, balanced summary that meets the length requirement to allow for full development of the information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response shows some attempt at logical organization through the use of transition words like 'Overall', 'First', and 'Moreover'. However, the abrupt ending and the lack of a cohesive structure for the entire report make it difficult to follow. Paragraphing is present but the content within the paragraphs is underdeveloped. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the confusing description of the room changes. To improve, focus on creating a clear structure: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two distinct body paragraphs detailing specific changes, ensuring each idea flows logically into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'there is a lot of change' and 'all of them are changed' lack the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'it changed their name into', which is grammatically and lexically awkward. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to describing changes, such as 'relocated', 'converted', 'expanded', or 'replaced', and avoid repeating simple verbs like 'change' or 'move'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For example, 'it shows difference' should be 'it shows the differences', and 'especially there is four rooms' should be 'especially as there are four rooms'. The sentence structure is generally simple, and the lack of completion in the final sentence indicates a lack of control over complex structures. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practice writing complete, complex sentences that accurately describe the spatial relationships and changes between the two floor plans.
