The diagram below shows the floor plan of a public library 20 years ago and how it looks now.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The two maps illustrate the floor plan of a central library 20 years ago and now. Overall, it is evident that nearly everything in the map has changed drastically over the years. The two doors in th the northwest and northeast remained unchanged.

20 years ago, the central library had a room in the northwest for CDs, videos and computer games, which is right next to the Children’s book room Adult fiction, non-fiction books situated on the west and east sides, and in the centre displays two tables and 8 chairs for each table. Reading room and enquiry desk room are located in the southeastern and southwestern areas, respectively.

Central Library has undergone a dramatic modification today. The tables and chairs are removed. The previous computer games room has been extended and made for children’s fiction books, two sofas have been added in the room for relaxation. The adult fiction books area has changed to all reference books, and the reading room has become a computer room. Space reserved for adult non-fiction becamean area for adult fiction and self-service machines. And finally, the enquiry desk room has been improved to a café.
