Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified the main features of the library floor plan, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You mention the changes in the north-east, east, and north-west, but the description lacks sufficient detail and comparative depth. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview of all areas shown in the diagram and extend your descriptions to meet the length requirement, which will allow for a more thorough reporting of the key features and comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For instance, phrases like 'below it' and 'in the south East' are used to transition between areas, but the overall flow is somewhat disjointed. The lack of varied linking words makes the progression of ideas feel a bit repetitive. To improve, try using a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'furthermore' to better connect your sentences and paragraphs, ensuring a smoother logical flow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'replaced' and 'covered by'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'facilitic' instead of 'facilities', 'childern's' instead of 'children's', and 'mahine' instead of 'machine'. These errors, while not always impeding communication, suggest a need for more careful proofreading. To improve, aim to incorporate more specific vocabulary related to floor plans and spatial descriptions, and pay closer attention to the spelling of common nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the library', 'the enquiry desk'), punctuation issues (missing spaces after commas), and tense inconsistencies. For example, 'it is clean that library has undergone' should be 'it is clear that the library has undergone'. These errors occur throughout the text and occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the correct use of articles and prepositions, and ensure that your punctuation is consistent and accurate.
