Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by describing the changes in the library floor plan. However, the report is incomplete as it cuts off mid-sentence at the end. While the main features are identified, the lack of a concluding summary and the abrupt ending prevent a full overview of the data. The comparison between the two time periods is attempted, but the description of the layout is somewhat repetitive and lacks the precision required for a higher band. To improve, ensure all parts of the diagram are described clearly and provide a cohesive summary of the most significant changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response uses basic cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the paragraphing is inconsistent, and the flow is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. The logical progression is present but mechanical, and the referencing (e.g., 'there was a table') is occasionally awkward. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, complete focus, avoiding the abrupt termination of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is frequent repetition of basic structures like 'at the center' and 'at the corner'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'how it seems now' instead of 'how it appears now'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'Adult fiction book had left side'. To reach a higher band, incorporate more precise descriptive language related to spatial layout and change, such as 'transformed', 'relocated', or 'designated area'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' is often missing) and verb tense consistency (e.g., 'In 20 years ago, there was...'). Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, such as 'Adult fiction book had left side'. Punctuation is generally functional but basic. To improve, focus on mastering article usage and ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing past and present states. Proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement errors will also significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
