Student answer (Band 6.0)

20 years before there were four rooms in a library in that four rooms there were computer games room, children's books room, reading room and a enquiry desk room and in 20 years before library the chairs were placed at the middle of the library in whom the students and sat and read there books which they wanted to read after that there were two sections in a open area such as in one section there were books of adult fiction books and in other section there were books of adult non fiction books and there was only one entrance of library

After 20 years whole map of library is changed. In this present library the rooms are replaced with other resources such as in first room the gaming room is changed with the children's fiction room in this there were few modifications such as they added sofas in that room and after that every event is held in that room and in second room the children's room is replaced with lecture room in which on every topic lecture is deliver and in third room the reading is changed with computer room and in fourth room the enquiry desk is replaced with cafe and on the left side they provide every reference books and on right side they provide adult fiction books and also with that they provided self service machines but in both libraries there is only one entrance from whom people enter in the library

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the library floor plans, identifying the key changes such as the replacement of rooms and the addition of new facilities. However, the description is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear overview or summary statement that highlights the most significant transformations. While the main features are addressed, the comparison between the two time periods could be more analytical. The response tends to list changes room-by-room rather than synthesizing the information to provide a clear, high-level summary of the library's evolution over the two decades.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into two main paragraphs, which is appropriate for a comparison task. However, the flow within the paragraphs is quite mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and repetitive, with phrases like 'in that room' and 'in this' appearing frequently. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by long, run-on sentences that lack clear punctuation. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow, the lack of varied linking words and the reliance on simple conjunctions make the text feel somewhat disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. The student relies on basic descriptors such as 'rooms', 'changed', and 'replaced'. There is a lack of specific terminology related to floor plans or architectural features. Some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'in whom the students and sat', which is grammatically incorrect and lexically imprecise. To improve, the student should incorporate more descriptive vocabulary related to spatial arrangement and functional changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include incorrect preposition usage, subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'lecture is deliver'), and run-on sentences that lack necessary punctuation. The use of relative clauses is attempted but often results in confusion, such as 'in whom the students and sat'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
