Central Library 20 years ago
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Central library 20 years ago has well defined room that shown clearly on the map that there is a four room with two centre tables and chair and have a big entrance. Along with a discussion there is a room that is cds, videos, computer games have children's books and many more that library is look like a old manufactured library and we can say old build which have some space to roam and not made with a modern style. This library is good and we can concentrate on studies without any disturbance and distraction.
Central library today so according to today's library it have great space and many rooms include cafe and all but the disadvantage is that students can distracted in this library instead of study actually they didn't get the atmosphere of study. So that is the negative point of today's library. Although I like this library accepting one thing here. It has comfortable sofas to sit so that students didn't have the trouble in studying.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of providing an objective summary of the visual data, the text includes subjective opinions, such as 'the disadvantage is that students can distracted' and 'I like this library'. In IELTS Task 1, you must remain neutral and avoid personal commentary. Furthermore, the description of the library's layout is vague and lacks specific details from the diagram, such as the relocation of the entrance, the removal of the reading room, or the addition of the cafe and computer area. To improve, focus on reporting the changes in the floor plan objectively and use comparative language to highlight the differences between the two time periods.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is divided into two paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression is weak because the content focuses on personal opinion rather than a structured comparison of the visual information. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'so' and 'and'. The transition between the description of the past and the present is abrupt. To improve, use clear linking words to compare features (e.g., 'In contrast to the past,' 'Whereas the old library featured,' 'Currently, the space has been transformed into'). Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that relates to the task requirements.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'room', 'library', and 'good'. There are issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'old manufactured library' and 'old build', which do not accurately describe a floor plan. The phrasing is often informal and imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate specific vocabulary related to describing changes and layouts, such as 'relocated', 'converted', 'expanded', 'replaced', and 'centralised'. Avoid using conversational language and focus on academic, descriptive terminology that accurately reflects the visual data provided in the prompt.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'library... have well defined room'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, such as 'Along with a discussion there is a room that is cds, videos, computer games have children's books'. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with basic connectors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that prepositions are used correctly when describing locations on a map.
