Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to describe the changes in the library floor plan, but it struggles with the fundamental nature of the task. It incorrectly describes the diagram as a 'process' involving 'steps' that are 'interlinked,' which is inaccurate for a static floor plan comparison. While most features are mentioned, the description is often confusing, such as stating that 'CDs, videos, computer games is replaced by the storytelling events.' The report lacks a clear overview of the most significant changes, instead listing individual modifications in a repetitive and mechanical way. The conclusion is also irrelevant as it discusses the diagram as if it were a procedural flow chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks logical progression. The use of transition words like 'The second step' and 'After that' is inappropriate because the task is a comparison of two static layouts, not a sequence of events. Paragraphing is poor; the entire body of the report is contained in one dense, confusing paragraph, and the conclusion is disconnected from the content. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which area of the library is being discussed. The overall structure is mechanical rather than analytical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often misused. There is a heavy reliance on basic verbs like 'is' and 'switched' or 'replaced.' The student uses inaccurate terminology, such as 'supersede' (which is used incorrectly in context) and 'omission of any step.' There are also issues with word choice, such as 'sofa sitting' instead of 'seating area.' The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe spatial relationships or changes with precision, leading to repetitive phrasing throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. Subject-verb agreement is a major issue, for example: 'The process diagram demonstrate' and 'there is Adult fiction books.' Sentence structures are often awkward and ungrammatical, such as 'In twenty years back, the North corner of the library is Children's books is swapped by Lecture room.' There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. These errors are frequent and pervasive, making the text difficult to read at times.
