Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the library floor plan, including the layout 20 years ago and the current configuration. However, the description is somewhat superficial. While you mention the addition of a cafe and self-service machines, you fail to clearly contrast the removal of specific areas (like the CD/video hall) or the relocation of the enquiry desk. The summary is also quite brief and misses the opportunity to highlight the most significant changes, such as the transition from a book-centric space to a more digital and service-oriented environment. To improve, ensure you provide a more detailed comparison of the spatial changes rather than just listing features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organised into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure for this task. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and mechanical. Phrases like 'In the left side' and 'In the right side' are used repeatedly, which makes the flow feel somewhat repetitive. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect the comparison between the two time periods. To improve, try to use a wider range of transition signals such as 'In contrast', 'Conversely', or 'Furthermore' to better guide the reader through the changes described.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'people can bought tickets' (should be 'could buy') and 'caffe' (spelling error). The use of 'pictorial representation' is a good attempt at academic register, but other parts of the text rely on simple, repetitive vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing floor plans, such as 'situated', 'adjacent to', 'replaced by', or 'transformed into'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'structure of Central library was include' (incorrect verb form), 'Reading room which contain' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'In today' (incorrect prepositional phrase). There are also issues with article usage and tense consistency. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses.
