Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response provides a clear overview of the changes, identifying the main features such as the removal of tables and chairs and the addition of a cafe. However, the description of the layout changes is at times confusing and lacks precision. For instance, stating 'some escape from the library' is unclear, and the spatial descriptions (e.g., 'left side at the end of library') are somewhat imprecise. While the main features are covered, the reporting of specific locations could be more systematic to ensure the reader can easily follow the transformation of the floor plan.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each focusing on different aspects of the library's transformation. There is a clear overall progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Its followed by' and 'Moving further'. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth transitions, making the flow feel a bit disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the past and present states could be more fluidly integrated to improve the overall readability.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the library's features and changes. There are some attempts at using specific terminology like 'infrastructure', 'renovation', and 'enquiry desk'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'books blocks' instead of 'book sections' and 'some escape from the library'. The range is sufficient to convey the main points, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('at the left side', 'at right end side'), prepositions, and verb tense consistency ('A new cafe introduce' should be 'was introduced'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some unnecessary capitalisation and spacing issues. These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this criterion.
