Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully identifies the main features of the library floor plan and makes relevant comparisons between the two time periods. You have clearly highlighted the additions (lecture room, cafe, information desk) and the removals (reading room, enquiry desk). The overview is present and provides a clear summary of the changes. To reach a higher band, ensure that all spatial descriptions are precise; for instance, mentioning the specific locations of the new facilities relative to the old ones would strengthen the report. Overall, you have covered all parts of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized, moving from an introduction to an overview, followed by a description of the past and then the present. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate these sections. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, you rely heavily on 'while' and 'the' to connect ideas. Improving the flow by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the area', 'the center') is always clear would enhance the cohesion of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'undergone significant changes', 'converted', and 'replaced'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'childrens' (missing apostrophe) and 'their' instead of 'there'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise descriptive language regarding the layout, such as 'situated in the periphery' or 'occupying the central space'. The current vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning clearly but lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The diagram below illustrate', 'how it look now') and missing articles ('there was reading room'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that articles are used correctly before singular countable nouns. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help elevate your score.
