Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the floor plan changes. You successfully identified key transformations, such as the addition of the cafe and the relocation of book sections. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant changes, and some descriptions are slightly inaccurate or confusing, such as referring to the 'central park' instead of the 'central library'. While you have addressed the task, the analysis could be more precise by grouping related changes together rather than listing them sequentially. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the two time periods and focus on the most prominent structural shifts rather than every minor detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of information. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Overall' and 'Since then', to link ideas. However, the flow within the body paragraph is somewhat mechanical, relying on a list-like structure rather than fluid comparisons. Some referencing is slightly unclear, and the transition between the past and present states could be smoother. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of cohesive devices to connect sentences and ensure that the relationship between the old and new layouts is explicitly stated through comparative language.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'redevelopment', 'modernized', and 'amenities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'central park' (instead of library) and 'children's books has been changed to lecture room'. These errors do not impede communication but show a lack of precision. To improve, focus on using more specific terminology related to floor plans and ensure that your nouns and verbs agree in number. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive adjectives and precise verbs for spatial changes would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, such as 'children's books has been changed' and 'New cafe has been constructed'. Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as inconsistent spacing before commas. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the overall meaning of the report. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically regarding articles (e.g., 'a' new cafe) and pluralization, and attempt to vary your sentence structure with more complex, error-free constructions.
