Central Library 20 years ago
Student answer (Band 6.0)
These two diagrams are showing the layout of a library. In the first picture we can see the layout was old and space was little bit congested. The pathway from center was not clear. But the important thing there was many activities for children. Like CDs, videos, computer games and children's books section was also available. Enquiry desk was also available for tickets, book returns, etc. As well as there was a separate room allocated for newspapers and magazines reading.
While in today's library a room for children is combine with all activities and its a storytelling events. Two sofas are also place in room at corners. Lecture room is addition in today's library. And the most important thing is self-machines installed for books issue and return. Now the central path is also looking wide. Cafe is also a good addition in library. Computer room is also constructed for all people.
Finally, today's library has a modern layout and also has advanced features.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the library floor plans, identifying key changes such as the addition of the lecture room, cafe, and self-service machines. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The description of the '20 years ago' layout is a bit disjointed, and the comparison between the two periods could be more analytical. While you mention the central path is now 'wide', you miss the opportunity to describe the specific relocation of areas like the computer room or the reduction in size of the reading room. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the most significant changes in the introduction or summary to better highlight the transformation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure for this task. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'While in today's library' and 'Finally' are used, but the flow between sentences is often abrupt. Some sentences lack clear logical connections, making the progression of ideas feel a bit stilted. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the comparison of the two floor plans.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on simple descriptors like 'old', 'good', and 'important'. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'self-machines' (should be 'self-service machines') and 'is addition' (should be 'is an addition'). To improve, focus on using more descriptive, topic-specific vocabulary related to floor plans and architectural changes, such as 'relocated', 'transformed', 'expanded', or 'integrated'. The current range is sufficient for communication but does not demonstrate the flexibility expected at higher levels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Examples include 'These two diagrams are showing' (should be 'These two diagrams show'), 'space was little bit congested' (missing 'a'), 'Two sofas are also place' (should be 'placed'), and 'is combine' (should be 'is combined'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to indicate a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and passive voice construction would significantly improve your accuracy.
