Central Library 20 years ago
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The maps provided demonstrate the floor plan of Central Library 20 years ago and how it looks now. Overall, the library has undergone significant redevelopments, with several original features being removed or replaced. Features that are now eradicated include: the enquiry desk, and the reading room.
Previously, there was a seating area, located at the center of the library, which is now removed. Along with that, the computer games, CDs, videos room was shifted and renamed as the Computer room. Moreover, children's books, that contain fiction, are currently present in the area where storytelling events are conducted. Furthermore, the room occupied by the children's books previously is now transformed into a lecture room, and a cage is now opened in place of the enquiry desk. The room that contained adult fiction books is now occupied by all of the reference books, and information desk is setup along with self-serve machines in the adult fiction books area. Lastly, the entrance is the only feature that is still present in its actual place.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the floor plan changes well. You have identified the key redevelopments, such as the removal of the enquiry desk and the relocation of specific rooms. However, the report could be improved by grouping the information more logically—perhaps by areas that remained the same versus those that were transformed—rather than listing changes in a somewhat fragmented manner. While you mention the entrance remains the same, a more analytical approach would involve highlighting the overall shift in the library's function, such as the increased focus on digital resources and lecture spaces compared to the previous layout. The overview is present but could be more descriptive of the general trend of the changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through the changes. However, the paragraphing is slightly unbalanced, with a very short introductory paragraph and a longer, list-like second paragraph. The flow between sentences is generally good, but some transitions feel a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus rather than just listing changes sequentially. The use of referencing (e.g., 'the room that contained...') is generally clear, though some phrasing is slightly repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'redevelopments', 'eradicated', and 'transformed' appropriately. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'a cage is now opened' (likely referring to a cafe) and 'information desk is setup' (should be 'set up'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Using more varied synonyms for 'change' or 'move' would enhance the quality of the report. Overall, the vocabulary is functional and allows for clear communication of the visual information.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The maps provided demonstrate...' and 'The room that contained adult fiction books is now occupied by...'. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'children's books, that contain fiction' (the comma is unnecessary here) and 'information desk is setup' (missing an article: 'an information desk'). Additionally, 'which is now removed' should ideally be 'which has now been removed' to maintain consistent tense usage. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the errors do not impede communication. Increasing the variety of complex structures would help improve this score.
