Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively summarizes the main features of the library's transformation. You have successfully identified the key changes, such as the relocation of children's books and the introduction of new facilities like the café and computer room. The overview provides a clear summary of the redevelopment. However, to reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are precise. For instance, while you mention the relocation of children's books, clarifying the spatial shift more explicitly would enhance the report. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well and provides a clear, logical summary of the visual data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that contrast the past and present layouts. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you use cohesive devices such as 'Regarding', 'Turning to', and 'Meanwhile' effectively to guide the reader through the changes. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two time periods. The flow is natural, and the relationship between the different sections of the library is clearly articulated, making the information easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for describing a floor plan, such as 'redevelopment', 'relocated', 'demolished', and 'introduced'. The word choice is generally precise and fits the context of the task well. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication. To improve further, you could incorporate more sophisticated collocations or synonyms for common verbs like 'replaced' or 'removed' to show a wider lexical range, although the current vocabulary is sufficient to convey the information clearly and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
The response displays a good variety of complex sentence structures, such as the use of 'whereas' and 'while' to contrast information. The grammar is generally accurate, with very few errors. Most sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is handled correctly. You maintain a consistent tense, appropriately using the past tense for the library 20 years ago and the present tense for the current layout. The control over grammatical structures is strong, contributing to the overall clarity and professional tone of the report.
