Central Library 20 years ago
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Now we compare the library sketch with its twenty years ago map and its currently situation. So the entrance is remains same as it was in the past. But in the past on the right side of entrance there was enquiry desk but now it is cafe. And on the right side there was reading room but now it is turned into computer room. In the past in the centre there was chairs and tables but now it left empty. And now adult fiction area turned into all reference books and non fiction books area turned into self service machines . But in the back area on the right side there was childrens room but now it is known as the lecture room. And on the left side there was the cds and videos computer games room was established but now it is turned into the storytelling events area . So now as we know that many changes occurs in the central library because due to the change of requirements and needs. Because due to change in the science and technology and great revolution.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the floor plan changes, such as the conversion of the reading room to a computer room and the addition of a cafe. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends, which is a requirement for Band 6 and above. The description is somewhat mechanical, listing changes point-by-point without grouping them logically. While all parts of the task are addressed, the lack of an analytical summary and the inclusion of speculative reasons for the changes (e.g., 'due to the change of requirements') are not required for an Academic Task 1 report and detract from the objective tone expected.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized as a single paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow. There is a lack of paragraphing to separate the introduction, overview, and body details. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive (e.g., 'In the past... but now...') and sometimes used incorrectly at the start of sentences, such as 'So now as we know that...'. The progression of ideas is linear rather than logical, and the lack of clear signposting makes the report feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'turned into' are used multiple times to describe the changes. There is a lack of variety in reporting verbs and descriptive language. Some word choices are inaccurate, such as 'currently situation' instead of 'current situation' and 'entrance is remains same' instead of 'entrance remains the same'. The range is sufficient to convey basic meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'entrance is remains same', 'many changes occurs', and 'because due to'. The sentence structures are mostly simple or repetitive compound sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of basic errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage limits the score.
