Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the floor plan changes, such as the conversion of the storytelling area and the addition of the cafe. However, the overview is somewhat weak; it lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the shift from a traditional reading space to a more digital and service-oriented environment. While the task is addressed, the description of the changes is occasionally repetitive and lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band. The report would benefit from a more structured comparison between the two time periods rather than simply listing changes in each section.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some sentences feel disjointed. While the overall progression is logical, the lack of sophisticated referencing and varied transition signals prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Improving the flow between sentences would significantly enhance the clarity of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the reader to understand the changes described. However, there is a lack of variety and precision. Phrases like 'removed many things' and 'some sections was completely changed' are quite basic. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'there is more amenities' (should be 'there are more amenities') and 'enquiry section which ones had' (should be 'which once had'). To improve, you should aim to use more precise verbs like 'relocated', 'transformed', or 'replaced' instead of repeating 'changed' or 'converted'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('there is more amenities', 'some sections was'), incorrect pluralisation ('two sofa's'), and missing articles ('in library'). Additionally, the sentence 'The enquiry section which ones had tickets and book returns desk is converted into cafe'' contains errors in relative pronouns and article usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score in this criterion.
