Student answer (Band 6.5)
The rendered maps depict the floor plan of a public library 20 years ago and after changes today.
In an overview, it is crystal clear the library has gone into drastic changes. The significant change are removal of tables and chairs and manufacturing of computer room on the place of reading room.
In the past, tables and chairs were in the centre of the library. In the north-east direction, there were children's books and adult non-fiction books were in the east direction of library. Moreover, adult fiction books were on the left side of tables and chairs, whereas CDs, videos, computer games were in the north-west corner. Additionally, reading room and enquiry desk were along with the south wall of library.
In the present, tables and chairs are removed for the space and Children's books are replaced by lecture room ,which was in the north-east corner. Apart from it, CDs, videos, computer games are replaced by sofas, storytelling events and children's fiction books. In the south-west, cafe is being made by replacing the enquiry desk and reading room is removed in order to make computer room. Adult fiction books are converted into all reference books. At last, self-service machines are arranged at the west side of the library.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the floor plan changes. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the removal of tables and the introduction of the computer room and cafe. However, the overview is slightly weak; while it mentions 'drastic changes', it could be more specific about the nature of these changes. The report is well-structured, and you have made relevant comparisons between the past and present layouts. To reach a higher band, ensure that all descriptions are precise—for example, clarify the exact locations of the new features to help the reader visualize the map more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, moving from an overview to past details and then present changes. You use cohesive devices such as 'In the past', 'Moreover', 'Apart from it', and 'At last' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied linking phrases. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner that is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'floor plan', 'enquiry desk', and 'self-service machines'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'manufacturing of computer room' (which is unnatural; 'installation' or 'creation' would be better) and 'cafe is being made' (a passive construction that sounds slightly awkward). While you attempt to use a variety of descriptive language, some phrasing remains basic. Expanding your repertoire of verbs related to spatial changes would enhance the precision of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The significant change are removal' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'in the place of' (should be 'in place of'). Additionally, some articles are missing or misused, such as 'on the place of reading room' and 'in the east direction of library'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
