Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the library floor plan and provided a clear comparison between the two time periods. You covered the key changes, such as the relocation of specific sections and the addition of new facilities like the cafe and lecture room. However, to reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more analytical comparisons rather than just listing the contents of each side. For instance, noting that the library shifted from a focus on media (CDs/videos) to a more academic and social space (lecture room/cafe) would strengthen your response. The overview is clear, but could be more detailed regarding the nature of the transformation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the past to the present. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Overall' to link your ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your referencing is precise. For example, instead of repeating 'On the left side' or 'On the right side', you could use more varied structures to describe the spatial layout, which would make the text feel more cohesive and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'floor plan', 'redesigned', and 'layout'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'illustrate demonstrates' (a redundancy) and 'Twenty years a go' (should be 'ago'). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly simplistic. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to describing changes, such as 'transformed', 'converted', or 'replaced by', rather than relying on basic verbs. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. However, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text, such as 'the library has the undergone' (extra 'the'), 'divided into several section' (should be plural 'sections'), and 'the left side contains a story telling area' (missing hyphen in 'story-telling'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing capital letters at the start of sentences. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation will significantly improve your accuracy.
