Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the floor plan changes, such as the conversion of the book issuing room into a cafe and the children's area into a lecture room. However, the overview is poorly constructed and lacks clarity, failing to provide a clear summary of the most significant trends. While the response identifies several changes, the description is at times confusing, such as the mention of 'adult non-fiction' and 'adult fiction' which is difficult to follow. The response would benefit from a more structured approach to comparing the two time periods, ensuring that all key changes are highlighted clearly for the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hampered by frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'After enter' and 'the left side', but they are often mechanically applied or grammatically incorrect. The progression of ideas is sometimes difficult to follow because the sentences do not always connect smoothly. For instance, the transition between describing the entrance and the specific rooms is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that contributes to the overall summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'update the the quality' and 'preserve for students enquiry'. The student relies on basic verbs like 'change' and 'remove' throughout the text. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and the presence of errors in word formation (e.g., 'know a day' instead of 'nowadays') limit the score. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to describing diagrams, such as 'relocated', 'transformed', 'replaced', or 'refurbished'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The diagrams shows', 'The main entrance are'), incorrect verb forms ('tables and chairs are remove'), and missing articles or prepositions. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that verb tenses are used consistently when describing past and present states.
